This was my favourite project I created during my BA(Hons) Graphic Information Design. As a student I had always felt particularly weak at Maths, it was something I dreaded attempting. Interaction to Fraction is designed to help create visual links through physical interaction in order to create new understanding of mathematic concepts. As you place each block on the box pressure sensors detect the block and activates the LED. Then this sends an image to the computer which shows a visual of what block you are placing on the box. The visual also shows this as a numerical fraction and as a representative slice of a pie. This gives the users multiple ways to understand and engage with the fraction they are creating. I crafted the box design using MDF and it was finished with spray paint. The lights and pressure sensors were programmed using Arduino.
